Gallet Decimal Chrono Stainless Steel Nr Mint SOLD

This rare vintage 1950's Gallet "Decimal" chronograph is in immaculate near mint condition featuring a large 37mm diameter solid stainless steel "waterproof" case, high grade Excelsior Park caliber 40 movement, sharp two-tone original dial and beautiful blue steel hands.  A stunning example of precision engineering and craftsmanship, this distinctive chronograph was designed to divide each minute into 100'ths instead of 60'ths, specifically for calculating elapsed time in sporting events, medical examinations or other scientific applications.  This rare and highly sought after variation is part of the Gallet's famous Multichron family, produced in very limited quantities through the 40's, 50's and 60's.

Style: Sport, Chronograph

Circa: 1940's

Case: Large solid stainless steel 2-piece screw back case with round "waterproof" pushers,  measuring 37mm in diameter excluding the original crown.  Signed inside the back, Gallet & Co Swiss, Acier Inoxydable.  Comes on a sporty 20mm wide black leather strap.

Dial: Stunning near mint original factory printed dial with outer decimal track in red, inner 1/5 seconds chapter in black with a 45 minute recording register at 3:00 and continuous seconds register at 9:00.  Signed Gallet, Decimal, Swiss.

Movement: Superb high quality Excelsior Park calibre EP40 manual-wind chronograph movement with column wheel engineering and incabloc balance protection, signed Gallet & Co Swiss, 17 Jewels, Unadjusted, JXR.  The slightly darker patina on the movement plates around the edge comes only from age and is common among EP calibers even in "new old stock" examples such as this one.  None of the other moving parts or springs show any signs of discoloration indicating this patina was almost certainly not caused by exposure to moisture.  This movement has just been fully serviced by our watchmaker and in excellent working condition, ready to wear.
